Plan Shenzhen Sights by District and Hotel Area

Build each day around one side of Shenzhen: Futian or Luohu for central access, Nanshan or Shekou for western sights, Bao’an for the airport.

First time in Shenzhen

Shenzhen is a long, multi-centre city. A route that looks possible on a map can become tiring after station exits, transfers, luggage, and queues.

District logic at a glance

  • Futian: civic center, business, central interchange.
  • Luohu: Dongmen, Shenzhen Railway Station, Luohu Checkpoint.
  • Nanshan and OCT: theme parks, Houhai, Shenzhen Bay.
  • Shekou: Sea World, ferry-linked stays, relaxed evenings.
  • Qianhai and Bao’an: western waterfront, Bao’an Center, airport-linked plans.
  • Yantian: Dameisha and Xiaomeisha beach day.
  • Dapeng: remote coast and heritage; dedicate a day or stay overnight.
  • Northern districts: use when a specific appointment or attraction justifies them.
Shenzhen Civic Center

Recommended spot

Shenzhen Civic Center

Civic axis landmark

A central landmark for understanding Futian CBD and Shenzhen's modern downtown layout.

District Futian District
Nearest metro Civic Center Station
Suggested time 1–2 hours
Good for city orientation, photos, skyline views

Futian and Luohu: the easiest central bases

Futian suits first-time visitors with business or central sights. Luohu works for the railway station, checkpoint, and Dongmen. They are neighboring central choices, not reasons to cross the whole city repeatedly.

Lianhua Mountain Park

Recommended spot

Lianhuashan Park

Futian city park

Lianhua Mountain Park is ideal for an easy uphill walk with views of Futian CBD.

District Futian District
Nearest metro Children's Palace Station
Suggested time 1.5–2.5 hours
Good for city park, light hiking, night views

Nanshan, OCT, Houhai, and Shekou: divide the west

Theme parks around Overseas Chinese Town, Houhai’s skyline, Shenzhen Bay’s long waterfront, and Shekou’s port-side evening are not one compact cluster. Choose one sub-area as the day’s anchor.

Nantou Ancient City

Recommended spot

Nantou Ancient City

Nanshan historic district

Nantou Ancient City is a short historic-district walk with shops and small museums.

District Nanshan District
Nearest metro Nantou Ancient City Station
Suggested time 1.5–3 hours
Good for cultural district, cafés, photos

Bao’an, Yantian, and Dapeng: use for specific travel purposes

Stay in Bao’an for airport or Shenzhen World logistics, not for every central itinerary. Treat Yantian as an eastern beach direction. Dapeng is farther and is unsuitable as a quick add-on before a flight, train, or border crossing.

Jiaochangwei

Recommended spot

Jiaochangwei

Dapeng seaside village

Jiaochangwei suits an overnight seaside stay and a slower Dapeng pace.

District Dapeng New District
Nearest metro No direct metro
Suggested time Half day–1 day
Good for seaside stay, friends, slow travel

A simple planning rule

For half a day, choose one main sight and one nearby addition. For a full day, keep the route in one district or along one clear corridor. If you must catch a flight, train, ferry, or border crossing, remove a sight before removing the transport buffer.

Final advice

Choose the hotel and daily direction together. A shorter route with one coherent district is usually better than a longer list spread across Shenzhen.
